A new porcelainised stoneware material based on anorthite

چکیده
The aim of the present study is to design and develop an alternative composition for making porcelainised stoneware, which has better properties than the conventional porcelainised stonewares. Contrary to the conventional porcelainised stonewares, this new body is designed to develop basically anorthite (CaO·Al2O3·2SiO2) crystals in the microstructure and to have a high crystalline to glassy phase ratio, after processing at 1200–1225 ◦C temperature ranges. To obtain the anorthite crystals, wollastonite, calcined alumina, quartz, Ukranian Ball Clay and some magnesia were used as raw materials. Technological properties, such as density, water absorption, firing shrinkage, flexural strength, thermal expansion behaviour and aesthetical properties were measured. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) studies were also carried out to analyse the microstructure. It was found that anorthite based material enables all the porcelainised stoneware requirements to be met and the material contains approximately 70% crystalline and 30% glassy phases. The flexural strength, 110 MPa, was two times higher than that of the conventional materials. © 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Glass-ceramic frits from fly ash in terracotta production.
Preliminary results of an investigation into the possible use of glass-ceramic frits from fly ash and glass cullet in terracotta (stoneware) tile manufacture are reported. Two new ceramics were studied and compared with a plant composition, containing 45 wt.% sodium feldspar. In the first ceramic batch 20% of the feldspar was substituted by frits and in the second the whole amount of feldspar w...
متن کاملEffect of Anorthite on Physical and Mechanical Properties of Bone China Bodies
ꞵ-tricalcium phosphate (ꞵ-TCP) and anorthite are the main crystalline components in bone china bodies. The difference in their thermal expansion coefficients causes a decrease in the thermal shock resistance of the body. In this study, anorthite was replaced with bone ash at the bone china body, and the effect of this new composition on different properties of bone china, after curing at 1260 °...
متن کاملAnorthite: thermal equation of state to high pressures
We present shock-wave (Hugoniot) data on single-crystal and porous anorthite (CaA12Si208) to pressures of 120 GPa. These data are inverted to yield values of the Cruneisen parameter (y), adiabatic bulk modulus (Ks) and coefficient of thermal expansion (a) over a broad range of pressures and temperatures which in turn are used to reduce the raw Hugoniot data and construct an experimentally-based...
متن کاملPossible isotopic fractionation effects in material sputtered from minerals
We discuss in detail a model which makes definite predictions for the fractionation of isotopes in sputtered material. The fractionation patterns can be nonlinear, and the pattern for a particular set of isotopes depends on the chemical matrix within which those isotopes are contained. Calculations are presented for all nonmonoisotopic elements contained in the minerals perovskite, anorthite, a...
متن کاملThe Earliest Chinese Proto-Porcelain Excavated from Kiln Sites: An Elemental Analysis
In June 2012, the Piaoshan kiln site was excavated in Huzhou, Zhejiang Province, which hitherto proved to be the earliest known Chinese proto-porcelain kiln. Judging from the decorative patterns of unearthed impressed stoneware and proto-porcelain sherds, the site was determined to date to the late Xia (c. 2070-c. 1600 BC), the first dynasty of China. Here, we report on proton-induced X-ray emi...
